Over the last several weeks we have been working on both getting the Free Build Mode completed in the short-term, as well as planning the long-term structure of Macunx VR. Development is now well underway, with several key functions already coded into the software.
One key consideration in using the software in VR is how you will move around in your memory palace. In addition to teleportation, there will also be a bird's-eye-view feature. This is great for building structures and drawing out the walls that you will use as spaces. You'll be able to create spaces for categories of information quickly, then immerse within a room or space to fill in the details.
In the shot above, you can see walls being drawn out to define a space.
Once you have defined a space, you can drop down into it to develop your spatial awareness and start adding mnemonics.
We have also been working on creating the menus for both building spaces and filling them with mnemonics. There will be a built-in library of 3D models you can use as mnemonics. These will include a range of people, animals, and everyday objects.
If the mnemonic you're looking for is not in the built-in library, you will be able to search for a suitable model in 3D Warehouse, SketchUp's online library of more than 4 million models. You would then be able to download the models into the software, building up your own personal library of images.
If you still can't find the image you're looking for, you will be able to add a 2D image from Google or from your own hard drive. If you want to use your own pet or a loved one as a mnemonic, you'll be able to add a picture of them to your memory palace.
So, it's been busy! We don't have a set release date, but we're making good progress and are on track to get the Free Build Mode ready within the next month or two.
